What is voice search being used for? This week I have a summary of the numbers to help sort out the relevance of voice search tools for local business search, the statistics of finding local businesses on voice search are listed in the 2nd half of this article.
I also decided to share the numbers in a context business owners will find most relevant. It is interesting to note just how many people and the frequency they are looking up local business information on some sort of voice search.
Voice search has emerged as a smart living tool for people of all ages. I’ll admit it’s awesome to control the lights, volume level of whatever media you're listening to, and search for information about the things which come to mind throughout the day.

Look back in your search history & if you've searched for info on a local business in the last few months you are among the 58% of consumers who used voice search to find info on local businesses .
Add to that 25% of consumers say they haven’t tried local voice search, but would consider it. This means local voice search listings will be rapidly expanding and increasingly important for businesses to take advantage of. More so now than ever, it’s necessary for businesses to present clean, pristine & timely information about their local & services.
To really know the numbers of voice search statistics you must realize just how often those people are looking up info about local businesses. 46% of voice search users search for a local business daily, and a further 28% searching once a week! If your business listing is not optimized for this kind of search you are missing out on a huge opportunity to reach potential customers.

- 58% of consumers used voice search to find information on a local business in the last 12 months.
- Only 18% of people say they wouldn’t use voice search for local business information
- There’s still room for voice search to grow: 25% of consumers haven’t yet tried local voice search, but would consider it.
- Smartphones are the most popular tool for voice searches for local businesses & Smart Speakers the least commonly used.
- Those aged 55+ are least likely to have used voice search for local businesses, however 33% would consider doing so.
- Men are more likely to have used local voice search than women

But local businesses are likely to benefit from a continued growth in voice searches. 25% of consumers told us they hadn’t yet made voice searches for local businesses—but would consider it in the future.
With a potential 82% of consumers willing to use voice search locally, businesses need to make sure they are both easily discoverable in voice search results, and supplying the information consumers really need.
- 46% of voice search users search for a local business daily, with a further 28% searching once a week
- 74% of smartphone voice search users search for local businesses at least once per week
- 76% use smart speakers for local search at least weekly—with 53% searching every day
Among those who already use voice search locally, there is a high frequency of use.
33% of consumers have called a local business using their smart speaker, making it all the more important for details to be correct online. Our recent Local Citations Trust Report found that 36% of consumers called a wrong number for a business because of incorrect information displayed online, so it’s critical for local businesses to check their online business listings are accurate to avoid this.
